LINEN-SPIRATION / by Rachel Fitzpatrick

At the beginning of October I had a wonderfully inspiring time at both Linen Biennale Conference at the Island Arts centre in Lisburn and the launch of a very exciting project I’m involved in called Linen Lab (more details to follow on this very soon).

The conference was packed with international speakers passionate about Linen and it was fascinating to listen to how each interpreted the material from their various prospectives from design industry, academia or even medical.

#linenbiennaleconf18 #linenalive #ilovelinen I also attended the team launch of the Linen Lab Project at the FE McWilliam Gallery. We received a tour of their current exhibition Lucienne Day: Living Design.

We were then given a fabulous tour of one of the last linen factories in Northern Ireland, Ferguson’s based in Banbridge.  Not only was the flax product and all it’s various uses fascinating but how the linen is produced and the scale and size of the machinery required.
