SUN ALWAYS RISES IN THE EAST
EASTside Arts Festival, Brain Injury Matters, Belfast, NI 2024
ABSTRACT
The Sun Always Rises in the East is a collaborative paper installation created by people living with acquired brain injury (ABI) for the EastSide Arts Festival. Responding to the festival theme of the same name, participants worked together over several weeks to cut, loop and join paper, gradually transforming simple materials through repetition, patience and collective effort.
Installed at Brain Injury Matters for a special event celebrating both the festival and August Craft Month 2024, the work explores renewal, resilience and connection. Each individual paper element contributes to a larger whole, reflecting the participants' distinct experiences and the strength of creating together. The installation is a celebration of possibility: a reminder that, whatever challenges we face, light returns and each day offers the chance to begin again.
